For those of you that don’t know me, my name is Barry Shamis.  For the past 35 years, I have been teaching organizations how to recruit and hire better employees.  Here is just a brief overview of where I have been.

I went to college at University of California at Berkeley.  Although I eventually graduated from St. Marys College in Moraga CA.  I spent my first 10 years in the business world working in both recruiting and training for companies including Memorex, Bank of America and Ingres.

I started Selecting Winners in 1984 under the name Effective Selection Systems.  In addition to providing live workshops, we also have authored numerous, courses, books, DVDs and on-line training.

During the past 26 years I have the privilege of working with some fantastic people and truly great minds in the arena of staffing.  I always start with Bert Mastrov who has been my friend and mentor since 1980.  Bert was the person who accelerated my education in recruiting and staffing.  To this day, he is still the person I run new ideas by before publishing.

Some of the other great talents that have worked with me include Ron Hamilton, Bill Belknap, Andrea Booth and of course Tara Norris (nag).  There have been many others over the years.

The other activity that has kept me very busy over the years was speaking.  From 1980 till 2005 I delivered more than 1500 presentations to companies, associations and other professional groups.  This speaking took me to more than 50 different countries.

Finally, a quick personal note.  I have been married to Sue for 26 years.  God Bless her for her patience.  As some of you know, we lost our son Ben in 2005 at the age of 17.  This changed our lives forever.  Ben was a great kid.  He brought so much to our lives and to those of all his friends.  Five years later we still receive notes from all the people he touched in his short life.  We spend every day remembering and loving him.

I hope you enjoy this site.
